Israeli - Arab

3. http://www.science.co.il/arab-israeli-conflict/cartoons/land-for-peace-20060724.jpg
This is a picture of the Hamas and the Hezbollahs fighting with a member of the United Nations. The Hamas are a Palestinian Islamic group who are terrorists towards Israel. The Hezbollahs are Arabic terrorists as well. The Hezbollahs are telling the United Nations they want a part of Israel and the United Nations say that they gave them land for peace, meaning the United Nations gave the Palestinians land in Israel so they woulnd't feel invaded by the Zionists. The United Nations are saying they shouldn't give the Palestinians anymore land.

4. This cartoon is connected to the reading because it's talking about how the Palestinians and other Arabs wanted land in Israel for themselves. This cartoon is more recent though, but still have the same idea of the conflict in Israel. Both the Hamas and the Hezbollahs are active today.

5. This is meaningful because it shows me that the conflict that we're learning about is still happening today after many years. It makes me feel unhopeful that the countries will find a solution anytime soon because there's terrorists groups and that makes it harder for everyone to agree on one decision. If the conflict has been going on for so long, I don't see how either sides will ever come together and be peaceful when they already have a feud.

The Greer vs. Tonkin

A comparison of the incident of the USS Greer and the incident on the Tonkin Gulf is that both sides blamed each other. With the Gulf, the U.S. blamed North Vietman for the attacking the Maddox, and North Vietnam blamed the U.S. afterwards, claiming they were threatening them by the Maddox sitting in International Waters. With the USS Greer, the German submarine was bombed, and the Germans located a destroyer (the Greer) 1200 meters away. The Germans attacked the Greer, thinking it was the U.S. who had bombed their submarine. Since the U.S. didn't bomb their submarine, the U.S. blamed the Germans for randomly attacking them. Another comparison is that the U.S. was attacked both times, but on a contrast is that two different countries that attacked the U.S.

First Paragraph

The two major diplomatic decisions America were faced with in the late nineteenth century were fighting a war with Spain to free other countries, and whether or not to become an empire. When the Cubans rebelled against Spain, the Americans took it upon themselves to help Cuba, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines to have independce. The Americans decided to go ahead and fight the Spanish in what we now call the Spanish-American war. It went on for weeks and we ended up winning. America signed a treaty with Spain, and they had then owned Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Philippines. After gaining so much more land, America had decided to be an empire, which went against their so-called strong values of freedom and democracy.

Obama and Teddy

Today's news about Obama was that he wants to help other countries in need while America still remains a world power. I think Theodore Roosevelt would have really valued the fact that Obama wants want to help underdevoloped countries, like Teddy supported Cuba. They're both obviously very big on America being a big power, but also wanting to help other countries with their own Nations. Teddy was a known Nationalist, and I think Obama supports the idea of being a Nationalist.
